Sir William Hill Climb
The Sir William Hill Climb is back by popular demand this year on Saturday 22nd September @ 5pm. Registration from 4pm.
It’s a great way to kick start your Grindleford Goat weekend or take on as a challenge in its own right.
The climb is 1.77km (that’s 1.1miles) and climbs a whopping 200m (650feet) in that short distance. That’s an average gradient of 11%. Pit yourself against the best, then kick back with the delights of the Hill Climb evening festival.
Click here to see the route on Strava.
The event is open to those age 16 and over on the 22nd September 2018. 16-18 year olds’ will require a parental consent form available on the day. Helmets are required.
Prizes go to the three fastest men and women, but everyone can be a winner and take home one of our fantastic, random, spot prizes! All prizes have been generously donated by our lovely sponsors.
To unwind after the climb, the Hill Climb festival is back with live entertainment, food, real ale and a bike fair. Entry to the festival is free for riders and their families – so you can bring everyone down to enjoy the buzz of Saturday evening before the Goat. The BBQ will be fired up from 16:00, entertainment starts at 18:00 and prize giving is at 19:00. Don’t get too carried away though as we’d like you to ride the sportive the following day!
Entry to the Hill Climb is £10 online (+£1 admin fee) and £12 on the night. Riders set off at one minute intervals between 17:00 and 18:40. If you enter on the night you will be allocated a slot on arrival. Enter online and pick the time you want to ride! All proceeds from the ticket sales will go to Grindleford and Eyam Playgroup (registered charity number 1036608).
Grindleford and Eyam Playgroup is an outdoors-themed pre-school which fosters a love of all things active, natural and wild, and where children from the age of two get to experience regular balance bike sessions, daily walks, weekly allotment days and a magical Forest School. So you know that by entering the Hill Climb, you’re also helping to inspire the next generation of cyclists.
16:00 Registration opens in the Sir William Hotel at the foot of Sir William Hill. Bar open, festival and BBQ fired up.
17:00 First rider starts. Riders then set off at timed one-minute intervals. Don’t forget: no helmet, no ride!
