The Sir William Hill Climb is back by popular demand this year on Friday 9th September. It’s a great way to kick start your Grindleford Goat weekend or take on as a challenge in its own right.
**UPDATE ** Already registered? Check out our event details for riders here – including important parking information and disclaimer/on the night entry forms.
This year, we’re delighted to announce that the event is being sponsored by our most local cycle shop shop High Peak Cycles (Calver and Glossop). Check out their fab gear here. Thank you High Peak Cycles!
They have generously provided race prizes of £50, £20 and £10 vouchers for 1st, 2nd and 3rd women and men.
And not only that, they have also laid on some fab event T-shirts. There will be children’s sizes available too! Here is a sneak preview of them, on sale for £10 on the night.
You can meet High Peak Cycles at their stall at the event festival where they will be showcasing their kids bikes and other goodies.
Other local bike shops and businesses are also supporting us with some fantastic random spot rider prizes. Check out our Facebook page for more details as we get them …
Last year we saw some incredible performances from club cyclists and total newcomers alike. The Friday night Hill Climb festival is also back, with live entertainment, food, real ale and a bike fair. And this time, entry to the festival is free both for riders and their families – so you can bring everyone down to enjoy the buzz of the Friday evening before the Goat. Don’t get too carried away though as we’d like you to ride the sportive the following day!
The Hill Climb this year is raising money for another local cause – this time for our local pre-school – Grindleford and Eyam Playgroup – who are raising funds to improve their base at Grindleford’s sports pavilion. Grindleford and Eyam Playgroup is an outdoors-themed pre-school which fosters a love of all things active, natural and wild, and where children from the age of two get to experience regular balance bike sessions, daily walks, weekly allotment days and a magical Forest School. So you know that by entering the Hill Climb, you’re also helping to inspire the next generation of cyclists!
The climb itself is 1.77km (that’s 1.1miles) and climbs a whopping 200m (650feet) in that short distance. That’s an average gradient of 11%. Pit yourself against the best, and then kick back with the delights of the Friday evening festival.
Hill Climb Entry: Entry is £10, which includes a medal and entry to the festival for you and your family (you’ll have to buy your food and beer as we can’t include that in the price!). Enter here.
